One of Our Most Frequently Asked Questions Answered

There’s a lot happening when Dryer Vent Wizard comes to clean and inspect your dryer vents. We don’t only clean all that lint out when we stop by, and one of the questions we get most frequently during an inspection is, “What are you measuring and why?”. What measurements are we talking about? The measurements we take as we do the diagnostic inspection that assess airflow and back pressure. So, here’s the answer to this frequently asked question!
Airflow is important to measure and assess because if it’s restricted it can create issues with your dryer vents and dryer. There are lots of ways that airflow can be restricted, too, including bird nests being built in your vents, improper vent routing, and, of course, the build-up of lint. When airflow is restricted, it can lead to a range of problems, such as longer drying times and the increase of lint build-up in your vents (which, in turn, leads to a higher risk of a dryer fire). All this is why measuring airflow is critical to the health of your dryer and your home’s safety.
What about back pressure? What is that, and why is it measured? Back pressure, or high static pressure, reduces the amount of air that escapes the dryer during each drying cycle. We measure this because if air is getting out, your dryer will be less efficient, which will cost you time and money. Plus, there will be more wear and tear on your clothing when run through the dryer. Definitely not something you want to deal with!
We take these measurements using specialized equipment and, in doing so, we are able to better service your dryer so it’s more efficient and safer. Because the more efficient your dryer is the longer it will be before you have to replace it, and the safer your dryer is, the safer you and your family will be.
